| In its development of its natural gas fields off the east coast of Nova Scotia, with related offshore and onshore facilities, the Sable Project has committed itself to ensuring that environmental impacts are minimized, and that every effort be made to protect ecologically sensitive areas. Codes of practice have been established to regulate activity around environmentally sensitive areas, pipeline routes have been altered to protect the habitats of rare species and wetlands, aboriginal groups have been consulted to provide traditional ecological knowledge, and a fishways and fish stocking program was developed. Furthermore, the Sable Project established a number of consultative committees with local stakeholders, including the fishing industry, to ensure that all interests were represented in the project – a practice that is being adopted by other companies worldwide.
