Community Sharing
Caring Neighbours

Success can be measured in many ways. At ExxonMobil Canada, one measure is how well we contribute to the quality of life wherever we do business.

Our success in the petroleum industry allows us to continue our long tradition of improving the communities where we create jobs and produce products.

We want to help develop prosperous, stable communities - not only because they're good places to do business, but because we care about our neighbours and the places we all call home.

That is why ExxonMobil Canada supports programs that improve education, the environment and safety initiatives. We fund museums and the arts - from symphonies to theatre companies. We support community service groups, particularly those that work with underprivileged or under-represented populations.

Being a caring neighbour takes many forms. Sometimes it requires muscle as well as money, and the company supports the efforts of our people when they become involved in community activities. Sometimes it requires specialized expertise that the company has available. And, sometimes it just requires the initiative of one of the world's premier companies, simply because that is what caring neighbours do.

EDUCATION
We believe programs and groups that support youth and adult education are critical to the long-term growth of the community.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
By working with organizations within the community, we are able to help build programs that help communities help themselves. Initiatives that emphasize safety and environmental protection, as well as those that develop employment for youth and help create opportunities within the community are a major focus of ExxonMobil Canada's Community Investment Program.

ARTS AND CULTURE
Art is a language that crosses geographic, cultural and national boundaries. For decades, ExxonMobil Canada has supported the cultural arts, museums and historical associations that enrich, inspire and educate.

ENVIRONMENT
ExxonMobil Canada supports responsible environmental protection efforts across the country. We support research projects that contribute to increased understanding of environmental issues. We also support educational projects and programs for students and the public which will increase scientific literacy and raise the public's level of understanding of environmental issues.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Through our Community Investment Program, we support broad-based organizations and initiatives. But, the following are ineligible for grants:

  • Activities taking place outside Canada
  • Political parties or candidates
  • Individual applicants or individual pursuits
  • Service clubs, fraternal organizations, or commercial solicitors
  • Advocacy or lobbying groups
  • Religious organizations
  • Feasibility studies
  • Conferences, conventions or seminars
  • Endowments or matching grants
  • On-going operating budgets
  • Private clubs funded through membership fees
  • Sports/recreations facilities, teams, or events
  • Capital projects and debt retirement
ExxonMobil Canada looks for evidence of efficient administration and fiscally sound management. We must have evidence of the long-term viability of an organization and will not make a donation if the survival of the organization is in question.

We prefer to consider grants on a year-to-year basis rather than making multiyear pledges. In allocating our contributions, ExxonMobil Canada takes into account the particular needs of communities, population, concentration of company employees and facilities and corporate involvement in the area.

We do not support local organizations or activities unless they are geographically located in an area where ExxonMobil Canada has significant facilities or numbers of employees.

HOW TO APPLY
The following guidelines will help any organization that wishes to submit a request for financial support. Applicants are also encouraged to add any information they consider might be helpful. Glossy presentations are not required.

  • Full name and address of the organization, address, telephone and fax numbers, name of contact person
  • Charitable registered number and registered name (if applicable)
