| ExxonMobil Canada strives to be a good corporate citizen wherever we do business. Our success in the energy industry makes it possible for us to contribute to the well-being of the communities where we create profits and jobs, produce products and pay taxes.
We support programs that improve education and the environment. We fund museums and the arts. We support community service groups, particularly those that work with underprivileged or underrepresented populations.
Our action takes many forms. Sometimes it requires people commitment as well as money, and we support the efforts of our people when they become involved.
Caring Neighbours
A lot of companies donate to charity. What sets ExxonMobil Canada apart is the way in which our employees get involved. In 2001 our employees painted a clubhouse, talked to kids about pursuing new and exciting careers, adopted needy families during the holiday season and deep fried turkeys.
Here are a few of the organizations we supported in 2001. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it looks at several of the projects funded and supported by ExxonMobil Canada and our people.
We are proud of our employees and the commitment they make to our communities.
Halifax Metro United Way
ExxonMobil Canada raised a record $183,000 for the Halifax Metro United Way, making it one of the most successful corporate campaigns in the city. The enthusiastic month-long campaign was packed with fund-raising and fun-raising events, all organized by employees and contractors. Through pledges and events we raised $97,000, which was matched by ExxonMobil Canada.
Techsploration
Sable Offshore Energy, and now ExxonMobil Canada, has supported the Techsploration program for the last four years. The program is having tremendous success in exposing young women to future careers in trades, technologies and sciences - all areas of high interest to the oil and gas industry. Young women from eight high schools in the region participate in the program every year. ExxonMobil Canada female employees volunteer as role models.
Granville Green Outdoor Concert Series
ExxonMobil Canada is a strong supporter of Granville Green - a series of free outdoor concerts held each Sunday in July and August at the Port Hawkesbury waterfront bandshell. ExxonMobil Canada is very proud to present the festival's Youth Showcase which profiles youth artists from Guysborough, Antigonish and Port Hawkesbury.
ExxonMobil Canada Student Bursaries
As the majority owner of Sable Offshore Energy, ExxonMobil Canada has been proud to have supported a bursary program in the Strait Area. Now in it's fifth year, ExxonMobil Canada's 2002 bursary program is stronger than every with 20 bursaries being distributed to graduating high school students throughout Richmond County, Antigonish County, and Guysborough County.
Discovery Centre
ExxonMobil Canada is corporate sponsor of the Discovery Centre Science Gallery in Halifax. Our $25,000 contribution helps the Discovery Centre provide more than 50,000 visitors a year with a hands-on, minds-on fun way to learn about science. The Centre also has a growing travelling exhibits program, which brings interactive science to schools and remote communities in Nova Scotia.
RCMP - Drug Awareness Resistance Education
ExxonMobil Canada is a major sponsor of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program in Nova Scotia. The program is designed to teach youth the necessary information to defend themselves against drug abuse and to help students make the best life choices.
Stan Rogers Festival
ExxonMobil Canada has supported this unique folk festival for the past five years through Sable Offshore Energy, the prime corporate sponsor. The festival is held every year in Canso over the first or second weekend in July. Thousands of people flock to the site for the three-day event from all across the continent.
Adopt-A-School Program
ExxonMobil Canada is in the process of forming a special business-education partnership with a Halifax inner-city school - Joseph Howe Public School. Through this partnership, ExxonMobil Canada will provide a number of resources to this very needy primary school.
