| By continuing to build progressive and long-term relationships with the Nova Scotia research and development community, ExxonMobil Canada continues assisting with the development of a viable and sustainable oil and gas industry in Nova Scotia. R&D investments in 2000 exceeded $4.6 million, bringing the total Sable Project R&D investment to date to over $17.4 million.
Research and Development initiatives have included an R&D Symposium/Workshop, co-hosted by the Atlantic Canada Petroleum Institute and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and the R&D call for proposals program.
The Atlantic Canada Petroleum Institute (ACPI) is calling for research proposals that address our four R&D themes: Hydrocarbon Evaluation, Environmental Impacts & Effects, Operations & Technologies, and Policy. In this call there is special interest in the following areas:
* Basin Analysis and Architecture - Jura-cretaceous and tertiary of the Orphan Basin,
Flemish Pass, Laurentian sub-basin, deepwater Scotian Salt Province, tertiary of
Carso/Salar, etc.
* Reservoir Studies and Reservoir Management - Reservoir characterization, seismic
mapping relations to reservoir modeling, AVO, inversion, deepwater mesozoic systems, carbonate reservoirs, CBM, carboniferous sandstones.
* Sedimentology Studies - Sedimentation versus tectonics, sequence stratigraphy, ichnology, biostratigraphy.
*Pore Pressure Prediction - Geological and geophysical pressure prediction, hard and soft geopressure, shallow water flows, and analogue basin studies.
*Human Health and Safety - Human factors, harsh and cold climate survival.
*Deepwater Technologies - Ocean environment predictions, seafloor characterization, drilling services.
ACPI's funding contribution of selected proposals will be in the range of $20,000 to $50,000 per proposal per year.
Preliminary proposals are ideas or concepts for both basic and applied research that are not yet mature, but would benefit from early input by the ACPI review committees. Preliminary proposals do not need to address all of the ACPI proposal criteria and may be submitted in letter form up to a maximum of 5 pages. Full Proposals should address all of the proposal criteria in a maximum of 15 pages. Please submit full proposals via e-mail in the standard ACPI format.
The ACPI Proposal Criteria are:
*Full and Preliminary Proposals must be consistent with one or more of the ACPI Research Themes.
*Proposals should maximize leveraging potential from other appropriate funding sources.
*Proposed research should be led by an Atlantic Canada research team and should maximize collaborations with other research groups to enhance the outcome of the studies.
*Proponents should identify how the proposed project will contribute to or be applied in hydrocarbon activities in Atlantic Canada.
*The proposal must be technically sound, unique, address issues of relevance to Atlantic Canada, and include some level of innovation.
All proposals will be reviewed by the ACPI Advisory Committees. These Committees provide advice and guidance to ACPI on the selection of funded research projects. Proposals should be submitted to:
