The Gully
The Gully is a deep ocean channel on the edge of the Scotian Shelf. This area is home to an amazingly diverse number of aquatic marine life. Sable Offshore Energy Incorporated recognizes the sensitivity of the Gully and has established a code of practice to ensure that the Sable project will not impact on the area. SOE Inc. is part of stakeholder group working with the World Wildlife Fund to establish boundaries for a possible marine protected area.
General Information
Location
The Gully is located about 260 kilometres off the coast of Nova Scotia, on the edge of the Scotian Shelf. It is located about 45 kilometres east of Sable Island.
Depth
The waters in the Gully range are about 1,500 metres deep. It is the deepest submarine canyon off the East Coast of North America.
Size
The Gully is significantly deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon.
