Making Way for NatureThe importance of bio-diversity—the multiple varieties of plant and animal life which co-exist within a healthy ecosystem—is widely understood and accepted by environmentally responsible companies around the world. Sable Offshore Energy Inc. is one of those companies. The tundra-like wetlands of Nova Scotia are unique in their bio-diversity. That is why SOEI contracted Jacques Whitford Environment Limited of Dartmouth to conduct an environmental field survey of the gas pipeline route from Goldboro to Point Tupper, Cape Breton. The survey identified two rare wetland species - the hemiparasitic herb, Northern Comandra, and the rare, four-toed salamander (hemidactylium scutatum) - that could be affected by a pipeline route travelling through their habitat. As a result of the survey, modifications to the pipeline's route have been accepted by SOEI, ensuring that the pipeline's construction and operations will have minimal impact on the unique bio-diversity of Nova Scotia's wetlands. | ||||
